The only images from the page that are actually how the mods works are Veronica and Cass, which don't have those weird-lighting-angular-rugged design choices FCO does. I suggest you actually try it out, because the screenshots are old and don't show the actual mod in its current state.
I give NVR huge props tho for what that mod team was able to put in NV, its just not for me.
Vanilla faces are putrid but using Character Revisions to fix them up a bit without going overboard and making everyone look like a meth addict. Yeah I checked it out actually and was about to use it but it requires fco and the faces were still too close to uncanny for me. I use it alongside Character Expansions Revised and it seems to work fine. Its only problem is the Bitter Springs/Gomorrah addons (which you can promptly turn off) and very, very minor lighting issues with ENB. Have you tried New Vegas Redesigned 3? I think it's an incredibly immersive and high-quality enhancement of the original character designs. I recently ditched Strip Open but I never had any issues with Freeside Open besides some frame drops so I'll keep it for a while. I can only recommend the last two if you're PC can handle it tho. The big mods I use are YUP, UPPNVSE, lStewieAl Tweaks, FPGE, The Living Desert, Character Expansions Revised (since FCO is too uncanny for me), New Vegas Landscape Overhaul, Uncut Wasteland, Mojave Wildlife, Freeside Open and The Strip Open. I have ~130 plugins and 90 or so deal with nitpick fixes. Such as Veronica accepting Vera's Dress to complete her quest, and gloves for the Trauma Override Harnesses. Wasteland Clothing Hires: (Mod Author threw a tantrum and deleted all their mods because people criticised Frontier hence why it's not a Nexus link) This is more or less my modlist (the core of it anyway, I have other stuff that I swap in and out on a whim).
